World War Z - Max Brooks

Ever since I was little, I have loved the horror genre.  I got an early start with Pinoy Thriller and The Twilight Zone on TV and have moved on to The Walking Dead and George Romero movies (you don't know horror if you don't know George Romero!).

So, I was very excited to read World War Z, because the movie version is out soon. The book is written as a series of recollections of different people before, during and after the zombie war.  The war is over but through the characters in the book, one gets to relive the horror of how it was then.  The book blurb sounded really exciting but I was disappointed to find that the book was more about 'politics' than zombies.     All I wanted  was pure zombie-eating-people fiction not talk about what country governments did or did not do during the zombie war.  Not bloody or gory enough for me.  Not even scary, except for the only 2 parts that I liked.

I hope the movie will be so much better than the book.  If only Brad Pitt gets bit by a zombie and dies early in the movie.  Boo Brangelina!  Brad and Jen pa rin!

The Passage - Justin Cronin

December 21, 2012 was said to be the end of the world, but we survived!   If you are a fan of end-of-the-world, zombie-ish/vampire-ish fiction, grab The Passage by Justin Cronin.  The book is part of a trilogy and book two, The Twelve, recently came out last year.

The Passage is about Project Noah, a military experiment where 12 death row convicts are injected with a virus created to make humans immortal and extremely strong.  But the experiment goes horribly wrong and the virus quickly spreads through America; you are either killed/eaten or taken up as a 'viral'.    The story then moves years into the future where a small pocket of survivors venture out to see what is left of the world.     This book reminds me so much of I Am Legend.  I guarantee that you will love it.
